Following up on dicussions held during EuroMarine 2015 General Assembly, the EuroMarine Steering Committee decided during its 25 Feb. 2015 meeting to set up a temporary EuroMarine Communications working group (WG) with a 5 k€ budget and precise terms of reference:

  1. Develop a communication plan
  2. Review the specifications produced by the Secretariat for the new (present) EuroMarine website
  3. Prioritize a list of communication actions for a 12-month action plan.

General Assembly representatives were invited to nominate potential WG members (the call was open from 11 March to 20 March 2015) and the following WG was formed (in italics: members present at Brussels meeting):

  • Tim DEPREZ (UGent, Belgium)
  • Sam DUPONT (UGOT, Sweden)
  • Geraldine FAUVILLE (UGot, Sweden) – withdraw from WG on 28 Jul. (overcommitment)
  • Anuschka MILLER (SAMS, UK)
  • David MURPHY (AquaTT, Ireland)
  • Martha PAPATHANASSIOU (HCMR, Greece)
  • Stéphane PESANT (UniHB, Germany)
  • Isabel SOUSA PINTO (CIIMAR, Portugal)

The Secretariat organised a WG meeting (5 May 2015, Brussels). S. Pesant and P.-F. Baisnée circulated raw meeting notes. D. Murphy (appointed as WG Chair at the meeting) and AquaTT members produced a draft communications plan. In the context of the WG, AquaTT produced a first PowerPoint template for EuroMarine presentations.The lack of 2015 financial resources (beyond the website development budget line) or work force that could be devoted to communications tasks, or the lack of visibility on 2016 dedicated resources, held back the production of a final communication plan and that of the 12-month action plan recommending specific actions. The WG however also reviewed and validated the website specifications, and the draft communications plan was taken up by EuroMarine communications officer at AquaTT (recruited on 1 Apr. 2016 after a Steering Committee decision). The 5 k€ budget was only partially spent (and remnants redirected to communication products).
