Gaston Berger University and the West African Networks on Biological Invasions of the French Institute of Research for sustainable Development (IRD) have announced an international conference: Invasive Species and Associated Socio-Environmental Issues, to be held 22-25 September 2020 in Saint-Louis, Senegal. This conference, the first of its type in West Africa, aims to:
- establish the current state of knowledge regarding major invasive species and invasion processes as well as their consequences on ecosystems where they settle and multiply
- document their socio-environmental impacts and associated financial costs
- promoting interactions between academic, political and operational stakeholders in order to identify and to evaluate the most accurate leverages towards a good surveillance and management of invasive species
The conference will call on the expertise of both the international research community and local expertise to pay particular attention to the need for greater support of research, data updates and societal actions with regards to invasive species.
