A Science@Sea course in multidisciplinary marine science will take place on Thursday 30th November and Friday the 1st December in Cork Harbour and its approaches. This intensive two-day Continuous Professional Development (CPD) course aboard the RV Celtic Voyager is aimed at postgraduate and graduate students of marine-related sciences, technologies and engineering, as well as researchers, industry professionals and educators.
Science@Sea courses concentrate on applied skills training in offshore data collection and emphasise a multidisciplinary ecosystem approach to investigating the marine environment. Training focuses on the core marine science disciplines of oceanography, benthic ecology, fisheries biology, marine geosciences and hydrography.
Participants gain first-hand experience in the set-up, applications, and operation of a wide range of sampling equipment and instrumentation. Other elements essential to carrying out research surveys at sea are also addressed including safety at sea, research vessel activities and capabilities, and survey design and planning.
