Call Open: Training Through Research Surveys Scheme 2017

The Strategic Marine Alliance for Research & Training (SMART), in collaboration with the Marine Institute, has announced a number of marine research placements on a range of research surveys on board the National Research Vessels, RV Celtic Explorer and RV Celtic Voyager. On-board placements provide the experience and skills required to work at sea and facilitate career development in ocean science. Participation also serves as a valuable opportunity to network with leading Irish and European marine scientists. There are a wide array of different survey options available, appealing to a wide range of potential applicants. The survey options comprise of:

• CE17004 Marine Institute Blue Whiting Acoustic Survey, 18 March to 7 April

• CE17005 Marine Institute Anglerfish and Megrim trawl survey, 8 to 17 April

• CE17008 NUI Galway Exploiting and conserving deep-sea genetic resources, 24 May to 5 June

• CE17009 Marine Institute Western European Small Pelagics Acoustic Survey (WESPAS) Leg 1, 6 to 29 June

• CE17011 Marine Institute Western European Small Pelagics Acoustic Survey (WESPAS) Leg 2, 4 to 21 July

• CV17021 Nephrops Underwater Television Survey (UWTV)  9-18th August

• CE17012 INFOMAR  Hydrographic Survey, 22 July to 6 August

• CE17014 INFOMAR Hydrographic Survey, 22 Sept. to 2 October

• CE17001 Marine Institute Celtic Sea Herring Acoustic Survey, 7 to 27 November

Applications are invited from final-year undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students from across the island of Ireland. Applicants must hold a degree in marine-related science or technology or be in the final year of their undergraduate programme.
