The Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR) has announced their marine biochemistry research division is seeking a postdoc in numerical modelling of the ocean and/or climate for a 2.5 year position as part of the EU H2020 project COMFORT.
COMFORT aims to quanitfy coupled cycles of carbon, oxygen, and nutrients for determining and achieving safe operating spaces with respect to tipping points in global systems. The research will involve perturbed parameter ensemble (PPE) simulations with the UVic Earth system model of intermediate complexity to:
- Combine new knowledge on Earth system tipping elements with new information about model uncertainties for determining multiple mitigation targets and related metrics for limits of damage
- Provide assessments on the effectiveness in reaching mitigation targets and the feasibility and potential risks and side effects of technical ocean mitigation measures
- Identify suitable scenarios for staying within “safe operating spaces” (i.e., planetary boundaries)
