The Laboratory of Protistology & Aquatic Ecology (Ghent University) is looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to investigate the role of estuarine plankton in the dynamics of exopolymeric carbon pools and the flocculation of suspended sediments. The successful candidate will combine field and laboratory experiments using state-of-the art observational and –omics technologies to understand the role of key microbial species and processes in the formation of exopolymeric substances (EPS) and transparent exopolymeric particle (TEP) aggregates, and their effect on aggregate stability.

To be eligible for this role, potential candidates must possess a Master's Degree in a relevant field, demonstrable practical experience, and a strong knowledge of R and/or a scripting language. All applicants should send their applications to anja [dot] hondekynatugent [dot] be.
