The third South African Coastal and Regional Ocean Community Model (CROCO) Summer School will be held from November 25th to December 6th 2024 at the Center for High Performance Computing in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Coastal and Regional Ocean Community (CROCO) model is a modelling platform for the regional and coastal ocean using realistic or idealized multiscale approaches.

CROCO has already made major contributions to a better understanding of the physical and biogeochemical functioning of many southern coastal areas, most notably, in Southern Africa, the upwelling systems of South Africa, the Mozambique Channel, the Agulhas Current, the East Madagascar Current and the Seychelles Chagos Thermocline Ridge.

Attendance to the event is free and in-person only. Application Deadline: 16 August 2024.

During week 1 (25-29 November):

  • Basics (for those with limited to no experience with CROCO)

During week 2 (2-6 December) the following two modules will be held in parallel:

  • Biogeochemical modeling (with PISCES, coupled with CROCO of course)
  • Air-sea coupling (WRF-CROCO)
