From 7 to 10 July 2026, Peniche, on Portugal’s Atlantic coast, will host the 59th European Marine Biology Symposium (EMBS 2026), one of Europe’s longest-running and most respected meetings in marine science. As a leading European forum for advancing marine science and shaping the future of ocean sustainability, EMBS brings together esteemed researchers, emerging scientists, innovators, and policy actors to advance the knowledge that underpins a sustainable ocean future.
Hosted by the Polytechnic of Leiria (ESTM), in partnership with MARE and the EuroMarine Network, EMBS 2026 will provide a high-level platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, welcoming around 300 participants. The symposium will focus on the science driving solutions to today’s most pressing ocean challenges, while maintaining its strong tradition of supporting early-career researchers and fostering an inclusive environment that encourages exchange across generations and disciplines. The programme will address marine biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, global change and multiple stressors, marine conservation and policy, sustainable food production and fisheries, blue biotechnology innovations, and citizen science and participatory monitoring.
More than a scientific meeting, EMBS 2026 is a platform for connecting knowledge with action. It strengthens the science-policy-innovation interface that is essential for resilient ecosystems and sustainable blue growth.
Join us at this unique setting of Portugal’s Atlantic coast to jointly shape the next chapter of marine science, where discovery drives impact and innovation supports the future of our ocean."
