The 60th meeting of the Estuarine & Coastal Sciences Association (ECSA) is taking place from 2-5 September 2024 in the Sheraton Grand Hangzhou Binjiang Hotel, Hangzhou, China!
The event, focusing on "Implementing Science-Based Solutions and Strategies for Coastal Resilience" will be hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics, Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, in Hangzhou, China. The co-chairs for this meeting are Dr. Jianfang Chen from China and Dr. Salom Vincent from India.
Estuaries and coastal seas as well as the population living there are extremely vulnerable to the multiple pressures imposed by global climate and environmental change. Ecosystem functions and services and the livelihoods of the population are impaired by a combination of natural and anthropogenic factors. The latter became more and more important during the time period that is called the 'Anthropocene' by many. These are grand challenges for science as well as for society which call for action towards a more resilient and sustainably used coastal zone.
With a focus on coastal resilience and management, this meeting aims to foster scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange between science and society, and the development of practical strategies and solutions. It serves as a unique platform for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders to collectively address the challenges faced by coastal regions worldwide.
The meeting will kick off with an engaging opening ceremony in the afternoon of September 2 and will have a number of keynote lectures on timely issues as well as a multitude of oral and poster presentations until September 5. On September 6, different options for field trips will provide participants with an exploration of coastal resilience initiatives.
Join ECSA 60 to delve into the multidisciplinary aspects of coastal resilience, drawing insights from physics, ecology, biogeochemistry, and the human dimension.
