The Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) is seeking applications for the role of Chair of its Observations Coordination Group (OCG). This is a critical leadership position, aimed at guiding the development and implementation of GOOS and the WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS). The OCG plays a central role in coordinating and developing ocean observing initiatives across global networks, contributing to the enhancement of the ocean observing system to meet the needs of Member States and other stakeholders.

The OCG Chair will be responsible for overseeing the alignment of ocean observing efforts with the overarching goals and strategies of GOOS. Candidates should have significant experience in ocean observing at a senior level and a deep interest in advancing the OCG’s mission within the broader GOOS framework. The role requires expertise in ocean science and system integration, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with international organizations.

The position requires approximately 15% of a typical working week, and the selected candidate will receive support from both the IOC and WMO secretariats. Applicants must have the permission of their employer to undertake this role, if necessary.
