OYSTER is looking for enthusiastic, engaged and creative Early Career Researchers (ECRs) who are willing to play an important role supporting young scientists in EuroMarine, as well as advocating for marine science and healthy oceans in general.
We welcome ECRs from all marine science related fields and backgrounds. Candidates are expected to engage in the different activities carried out by OYSTER throughout the year and to be proactive in developing new activities within the group.
Background
OYSTER (Orienting Young ScienTists of EuroMarine) is EuroMarine’s permanent working group to support young marine researchers, aiming to improve their representation and to create opportunities for their professional development. Keeping a participatory and bottom-up approach, OYSTER is led by a committed group of around 25 ECRs across EuroMarine Member Institutions. OYSTER specific objectives:
- Support, promote, and engage ECRs in Marine Sciences through different and constructive initiatives.
- Engage and empower ECRs, establishing platforms for their representation, career development and networking opportunities.
- Contribute to their achievements, funding ECR-led research projects, as well as training and dissemination fellowships, among other initiatives with specific training expertise (project evaluations, hosting events, proposal development, leadership skills) to foster career development.
Who can apply
Eligible candidates include:
- PhD students,
- post-doctoral researchers within five years of completing their PhD, and
- technicians or research assistants within seven years of completing their MSc, based at EuroMarine Member Organisations.
Candidates should have experience in marine research and be willing to use their creativity, communication and interpersonal skills to help promote marine science and EuroMarine activities. In all group dynamics, effective communication and respect are essential. Previous experience in other collaborative networks would be advantageous, although not mandatory.
Candidates from all marine research disciplines are welcome. Additionally, candidates from countries that are currently underrepresented in OYSTER are particularly encouraged
