The team supports funding procurement for research projects, optimises knowledge management and effectively communicates and transfers key findings to stakeholders in policy, academia, industry and society to help solve challenges such as climate change, sustainable consumption and production, and improved food security.

ERINN’s team is composed of experienced, multidisciplinary experts from varied backgrounds. The main thematic areas include: Agriculture, Marine, Environment, Water, Peatland Restoration, Health, Climate Change, Energy and Food.

The Role

The Senior Communications Officer (SCO) will play an integral role in implementing and expanding ERINN’s company communications strategy as well as supporting communication activities across ERINN’s projects (currently 25 open European projects) and business services. The team is looking for an all-round communicator with multimedia skills using a wide range of digital tools for both internal (employee engagement) and external (brand positioning) purposes.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement a coherent brand messaging strategy covering the full breadth of ERINN's business portfolio (research funding support, research communications and impact, knowledge transfer).
  • Determine strategic communications campaigns that will contribute to both organisational as well as project specific objectives.
  • Develop compelling content showcasing ERINN’s success stories from across projects and services.
  • Manage company communications including ERINN’s website, social media, ERINN’s brand at events and developing pitch materials.
  • Co-ordinate quality control checks on ERINN promotional material, including highly visible reports.
  • Support ERINN’s Project Officers to create, develop, edit, proof and publish multimedia content to communicate scientific research. This includes (but not limited to) press releases, newsletters, leaflets, brochures, infographics, videos, and content for project websites and social media.
  • Aid the sharing of knowledge and the adoption of best practices in communication among staff, fostering a culture of active employee involvement.
  • Create and maintain excellent partner, contractor and stakeholder relationships, including representing ERINN externally.

Required Skills and Experience

  • The successful candidate will be a proactive team player with the ability to create and maintain strong relationships among internal and external stakeholders.
  • He or she will possess exemplary communication and editorial skills, strong planning and organisational abilities, initiative, attention to detail and cultural sensitivity for working within an international context.

Essential Criteria

  • EEA work authorisation as well as fluent written and spoken English.
  • Educated to diploma/degree level in a relevant area. Candidates with relevant work experience in communications/public relations/media/marketing/journalism will also be considered.
  • At least three years previous experience in a comparable role.
  • Proven success designing and executing communications and/or marketing strategies and campaigns, ideally in sectors aligned with ERINN’s work.
  • Up to date on best practice communication trends with an ability to stay ahead of the curve.
  • Creative approach to problem solving, pro-active and willing to learn.
  • Excellent writing, copy editing and proofreading skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent digital communication skills with experience of creating high-quality content for a range of target audiences across a variety of platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate and work as part of a multidisciplinary, multicultural team. Ability to communicate and converse clearly, courteously, and professionally.
  • Excellent project and time management skills: highly organised, ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to prioritise tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility, as overtime may occasionally be required to meet deadlines as part of the contract. Roles may also be adapted in future depending on candidate strengths and the needs of the business.
